BILLINGS - Stillwater Mining Company could soon get a boost. United States Representative Denny Rehberg Thursday introduced legislation that requires the U.S. Treasury to mint a 1907 Augustus Saint-Gaudens palladium bullion coin. Though the original coin was made of gold, the new coins would be made from palladium from the mine. Rehberg's intention is that by the mine making the coins, it would help ease the burden of losing its contract with General Motors. "Unfortunately, introducing this legislation is not going to offset the damage of General Motors canceling the palladium contract, but we'll do anything we possibly can to help the folks up at the Stillwater mine," said Rehberg. Stillwater Mine is the only domestic producer of the precious metal.

There was some talk awhile back about a gold/palladium set.
I'd buy a set for sure. Hope they do it.

With 4 months left in 2009 I highly doubt the mint will take on another project like the Palladium UHR. Legislation states that UHRs can only be made in 2009 and the Palladium coin can only be made in a set with the gold UHR.

Looking at the current UHR price you can expect the set to sell for around $1700-1800 ($1289 for gold and probably $389 for Palladium coin????) Of course it will all vary according to spot at the time but I think a $150 premium on the Palladium coin is to be expected

I just did a UHR Palladium dance. I'll be doing one, around noon, everyday until December 31st.

If they do the sets those Palladium UHRs may end up worth a lot more than the AU. The numbers would be very low with the time left.

Yup and more than likely they would place a limit of 1 per household which means the Palladium would probably get no more than 50,000. Why did I throw a 50,000 number out there because the mint sold 40,000 of the gold UHRs within the first few days. It may be less especially if they limit the mintage of sets to say 25,000. Hell it may end up being a lot less.
